The New Zealand Consulate-General in Sydney is seeking a locally employed Policy Adviser to help advance and support New Zealand’s interests in Queensland and New South Wales.
The New Zealand Consulate-General in Sydney (NZCG) is responsible to the New Zealand Government (through the High Commissioner to Australia) for its official relations with the states of New South Wales and Queensland. The NZCG works closely with the other Sydney-based New Zealand agencies, particularly NZ Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and Tourism NZ (TNZ), in the pursuit of New Zealand’s interests. This locally engaged position in our small busy team is largely dedicated to promoting New Zealand’s relations with Queensland.
In this position, you will support the Post’s engagement with state government officials, local contacts and the business sector. You will be responsible for conducting research and analysis and preparing policy reports. You will also be involved in public diplomacy, visits management and event planning.
Your excellent research and critical analysis skills, coupled with strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, will be key to your success.
You should hold a tertiary qualification; have an understanding and interest in New Zealand political, foreign policy, trade and economic objectives; and strong computer skills. You will have 2-5 years’ work experience preferably in the policy field. New Zealand citizenship is not essential, but an ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate New Zealand Government security clearance is required.
Annual total remuneration for the position will be AUD$70,000 to $80,000 per annum including 9.25% superannuation, dependent upon skills and experience.
If this sounds like you, please download the full position description, which can be found at www.mfat.govt.nz
The terms and conditions of employment will be in line with Australian employment legislation. The successful applicant, if resident outside of Sydney, will be responsible for costs associated with relocation to Sydney.
